History of Hemenway Community Center

The Hemenway Community Center was a result of strong community organization and effort.   The City bought the building in 1990 and contracted with the Friends of David Walker, Inc. to provide cultural arts programs for children at the center.  The grand opening of the building was held on November 7, 1990.  In 1992 renovations of the building at Rankin & McRae Streets the once housed Sugar Daddy’s grocery began. The building was named the FivePointsCommunity Center and later renamed the HemenwayCommunity Center.
