General Information
The City of Wilmington has welcomed filmmakers to our town since 1983 with literally hundreds of feature-length films, mini-series, television episodic series, movies of the week, music videos and commercials shot within our City's limits.  Currently, Wilmington's waterfront is seen weekly as the setting for the Warner Brothers television series "One Tree Hill."

The City's Film and Media Services office coordinates filming on location within the City's limits, especially in the Downtown Business and Historic Districts.  We also coordinate the delivery of City services to the Film Industry, such as police and fire protection, barricades and offer assistance in securing City parks, streets and buildings for film locations.

The Film and Media Services office is also entrusted with interpreting and upholding the City's Filming Guidelines in the issuance of Filming Permits.  Our decisions reflect an attempt to balance the needs of filmmakers with the needs and expectations of businesses, residents and the public interest, and to arrive at solutions that are favorable to everyone.

City of Wilmington Film Permit Application Process
A permit application is required for any filming activity taking place within Wilmington’s City limits, whether on public or private property, excluding Screen Gems Studio. For filming entirely contained on private property this is merely a formality, but notification using the City’s approved permit application form is nonetheless required.  

All film permit requests must be received at least 3 to 5 full business days in advance to be processed.  Fax permit applications to Tammy Skinner at (910) 341-7854 or print, scan and email to tammy.skinner@wilmingtonnc.gov.
