Our signs and pavement markings crew is composed of a field supervisor, a sign fabricator, and five maintenance workers and is managed by a staff engineer. The crew is responsible for erecting and maintaining various signs within the City limits. The crew also installs and refurbishes pavement markings on streets maintained by the City. Our maintenance and installation duties include:
SIGNS Installed and Maintained On City-maintained Streets
- Traffic control signs, such as STOP Signs (except for intersections with NCDOT-maintained streets).
- Parking signs.
- Street name signs.
- Aerial street name and traffic control signs at all signalized intersections.
- School zone signing
- Informational signs
- Community Watch signs
PAVEMENT MARKINGS Maintained & Installed ON CITY-MAINTAINED STREETS
- Centerline, Edgeline, Stopbars, crosswalks, arrows, word messages, and painted islands
- Marked parking stalls
- School zone markings
- Speed hump “shark’s teeth” markings
- Reflectors (pavement markers)
- Flexible delineator posts

- Engineering STUDIES Conducted
- Multi-way STOP warrants
- Sight distance compliance
When a request for Multi-way stops is received, we analyze the intersection, conduct an engineering study on the area and determine whether the requested study area meets the warrants analysis for the proposed traffic control measure. This engineering study will take place as a part of the neighborhood traffic study for that neighborhood.
