I have filed a police report. What will happen now?
You have reported a crime and a uniformed patrol officer has conducted a preliminary investigation and completed and incident report. The events of this case detailed in the report will be filed in the Records Section, forwarded to Investigative Services Division, and the information surrounding the incident will be forwarded to patrol officers during their daily briefing.
How do I get a copy of the police report?
You may pick up a copy of the police report from our Records Section Monday - Friday between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. The Records Section is accessible through the police department front desk located at 615 Bess Street.
An officer has already taken a report but I now have more information regarding my case. How can I get this in my report?
You may call the police department and report the information to an individual that can take this information from you over the phone. They may be contacted at 910-343-3600. If there is additional evidence, then call the communications center at 910-341-4254 and they will dispatch an officer to meet you at a location specified by you.
Will a detective see my report?

I have been contacted by an association for fundraising and I want to know if it is a legitimate organization?
Police Officers are independently affiliated with the following organizations: Fraternal Order of Police; Wilmington Police Benevolent Association; and the Wilmington Police Recreation Association. These organizations have their own solicitors and raise funds through donations.
Property of mine was turned into the police department. How do I get it back?
The department receives property in two different ways, evidence and found property. Property may be claimed from the Logistics Section Monday - Friday between the hours of 9:00 am and 2:00 pm. You must have a current and valid form of identification. You must show documentation of ownership to support your claim. Property turned in as evidence may only be claimed with a court order. A court order can only be obtained from the court after the case has a final disposition entered.
What happens to unclaimed property?
Unclaimed found property will be sold at public auction after a specified period of time and after attempts have been made to contact the owner. Auctions are held as announced by the police department and will be advertised in the local newspaper.
I received a Citation. Can I reschedule the court appearance date?
Uniform Citations are issued by officers and the original goes to the New Hanover County Clerk of Court for scheduling. Any request for changes must be made through the New Hanover County Clerk of Court, telephone (910) 341-4440.
