Preventative Maintenance
City of Wilmington’s planned preventive maintenance roadway program is a very important and cost-effective way to extend the life cycle of our roads while reducing the need for routine maintenance. Without a preventive maintenance program, severe cracking, potholes, reduced skid resistance, and rutting that traps water and causes hydroplaning develop at an increased rate as roads age.
Utility Cut Program
The City of Wilmington Street Division is responsible for the repair of all street cuts on City streets made by utility companies such as gas, power and cable, and the City Water, Sewer and Stormwater Division’s. The repair of utility cuts made by private contractors on City streets is the responsibility of the contractor.
Utility Cut Fees
$325 per utility cut on all City streets
$68 per square yard for brick street removal and repair
To apply for a permit to make a Street Cut, please contact Skeet Carr at 910 341-5888.
City Maintained Streets & Sidewalks
City of Wilmington street crews are responsible for the maintenance and construction of the City’s streets and sidewalks. Street crews also repair the brick streets in historic downtown Wilmington. The Streets section also helps manage related capital projects and constructs special improvements such as efforts with Progress Energy to install underground utilities in the central business district.
