Port City Super Girls Academy Kicks Off Monday!
55 girls - ages 12 to 18 years of age will attend the first Port City Super Girls Academy beginning Monday, April 10. The four day – three night academy is hosted by the Wilmington Police Department and will end on April 13. The academy will take place at Camp Kirkwood in Watha, NC and is absolutely free. Buses for the event will leave the Wilmington Police Department headquarters at 9:30 am Monday morning and will return on Thursday around 2pm. A graduation ceremony will be held on Thursday afternoon around 12:45 pm for all participants at the campsite. The media is invited to attend.
The academy was created to challenge teens to explore new and innovative career paths, receive instruction on financial literacy, violence prevention and intervention. An interactive curriculum will be offered along with extra-curricular activities to include, sports, health and fitness. Funding for this program was provided by the NC Family Violence Prevention and Services Program.
