On Tuesday, the Wilmington City Council will meet at City Hall beginning at 6:30 p.m. Items of interest on the agenda include:

  • APPROVED. Renewal of existing agreements with the Wilmington Housing Authority (WHA) and New Hanover County Schools for the Wilmington Police Department to provide three police officers to the WHA and four to the schools. Both agencies reimburse the city for the officers.
     
  • APPROVED ON FIRST READING. The first vote on the 2017-18 city budget. Council is expected to adopt the budget at their June 20 meeting. Visit www.wilmingtonnc.gov/budget for details on the recommended budget.
     
  • APPROVED. Public hearing and two votes pertaining to the award of a Municipal Services District (MSD) management contract to Wilmington Downtown Inc. City Council has already agreed to implement a MSD on July 1, providing an enhanced service area in the Central business District (CBD), paid for by property owners in that district. Under the agreement, property owners in the CBD will pay an additional tax of 7-cents per $100 in valuation. In return, WDI would manage a number of services designed to keep downtown safer, cleaner and more desirable for visitors and future economic development. Wilmington Downtown Inc. was the only entity to respond to a request for proposals to provide these services. The contract is valued at $377,000 per year.

City HallThe next Council Meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 20. The agenda for this meeting will be posted on the city's website on Friday, June 16.
 
Meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, which is located on the second floor of City Hall at 102 North 3rd Street. Parking is available in the Thalian Hall parking lot or in the city parking deck located directly across from City Hall.
 
Meetings are also broadcast on GTV8 (Time Warner Cable channel 8) or simulcast by visiting the GTV8 web page. Following the meeting, videos are available on demand on the city's video archive web page.
