The unseasonably warm weather last month contributed to a record-setting December for the city's Municipal Golf Course, affectionately known as the "Muni."
Area golfers came out in force with the mild climate. As a result, total revenues for December 2011 were almost 2½ times what they were in December 2010.
The Wilmington Municipal Golf Course was designed by Donald Ross in 1926 to provide the public with a quality, championship 18-hole course at affordable prices. The course hosts both men's and women's city championships.
In 1989, the golf course bunkers were restored and renovated to complete the visions Donald J. Ross began in 1926. In 2009, the course was named #50 in Golf Week's list of best municipal golf courses in the country.
The course is located at 311 S Wallace Avenue.
