2012 Citizen Survey


Every two years, the city conducts a survey to gauge satisfaction levels and perceptions of city services. The survey identifies what the city is doing well and what services the city needs to improve upon and then the data is used to help set focus areas and develop funding priorities. 

City Council was presented with the results of the survey at their May 1 meeting. 

Statistically valid, the survey is one of the most accurate ways the city has to hear directly from a large number of citizens about what is important to them and how they would like their tax dollars spent. The city improved in a majority of services rated in both 2010 and 2012. 

Results of this survey were compared to the survey sent to residents in 2010. The city improved in 56 of the 80 areas that were compared in both surveys, and 29 areas increased significantly.

Following are highlights from the survey:
  • Overall satisfaction with city services is generally high 
    • 63% gave positive ratings for overall quality of city services
    • The percentage of residents satisfied with city services increased significantly from 2010 (+4%) 
  • Major services areas with the HIGHEST levels of satisfaction:
    • Fire
    • Parks & Recreation programs & facilities
    • Trash, Recycling and Yard Waste
    • Police
  • Top overall PRIORITIES for improvement
    • Streets and sidewalks
    • Quality of police services
    • Management of traffic flow on city streets
