At Wednesday’s work session, City Council appointed Bill Wolak as City Attorney. Wolak has served as interim since Carolyn Johnson left the position in December, 2011. He has been Assistant City Attorney for Public Safety since 1995 and has 24 total years of employment with the city, having worked previously as a city police officer.
Wolak has extensive legal and public safety experience, having worked as a Special Agent for the State Bureau of Investigation, as well as a state organized crime prosecutor. He also served in the US Marine Corps and received his law degree from NC Central School of Law. “I’m honored to be selected by the City Council as city attorney for Wilmington,” said Wolak. “I have enjoyed my years of service with the city and look forward to working with Council and staff as we move forward.”
