Empie Park Fire Station

Empie Park Fire Station

The new 9,000-square-foot fire station at Empie Park is now complete. An open house is planned for Saturday, August 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Construction began in August, 2011 to replace the old fire station, which was demolished after mold was found in the building. The new station has a similar design to the Seagate Fire Station on Oleander Drive and has an additional 880 square feet to better accommodate today’s larger fire equipment. The $2 million project is on schedule and within budget.

An artifact from the World Trade Center 9-11 bombing will be permanently displayed at the station in a memorial garden as a tribute to Wilmington’s fallen firefighters. Construction on the memorial is expected to begin in 2013.
