The city is nearing completion a $1.7 million project to install stormwater improvements in the Cedar Avenue area. The improvements are expected to significantly reduce flooding problems that occur during heavy rains on College Road between Wrightsville Avenue and Wilshire Boulevard.
Currently, the southbound lane of College Road is being closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night while grates are added that will improve drainage during heavy rains. Drainage grates have already been installed on the northbound side. Sweetwater Branch stream was restored as a part of the project. Following the stream restoration, a drainage pipe was installed on Cedar Avenue. The project is expected to be completed by the end of this month, well ahead of schedule. Construction began in January. The project is partially funded by $465,000 in state grants.
