Cross-City Trail public meeting

The city held a public information session and open house on August 23 for the construction of the final phase of the Gary Shell Cross-City Trail. 

This section will extend from Wade Park to John D. Barry Drive along Bethel and Waltmoor roads and South 17th Street.  

This will be the final phase of the Gary Shell Cross-City Trail. It is being constructed in part from a $555,000 grant from BlueCross BlueShield NC. The rest of the funds for the $1.3 million project will come from a combination of voter approved Parks and Open Space Bond Funds, the NC DOT, and funds already allocated to the Gary Shell Cross-City Trail. Construction on this phase will take place in 2013.

Approximately 11 miles of the trail are now complete. When finished, the trail will be 15 miles long and will stretch from Wade Park to the Wrightsville Beach drawbridge.
