City Council Meeting

Tuesday, August 21, City Council meeting, 6:30 p.m. at City Hall
Items of interest on the agenda included:
  • Two resolutions related to the final phase of the Gary Shell Cross City Trail, including a resolution awarding the contract for the design and a resolution allocating Parks Bond funds. This section of the trail will stretch from John D. Barry Drive on S. 17th Street to Wade Park off Waltmoor Road. The project will also be funded by monies received from BCBS of NC and other grants and gifts. The city will host a public information meeting and open house on August 23 from 5-7 p.m. regarding this section of the trail.   • A resolution extending the contract with the management company for SafeLight for one year. The original 3-year contract with American Traffic Solutions included a provision allowing for a contract renewal annually for up two additional years.  This resolution would renew the contract for one additional year based on performance. More information on the city's SafeLight program can be found here.
  • A resolution extending the timeline of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the city and Harmony Hospitality, Inc. to develop a hotel adjacent to the Wilmington Convention Center. The changes are necessary due to time constraints and development requirements. The MOU would be extended through January 31, 2013. Harmony Hospitality would also agree to submit an application for a franchise in by November 30, 2012.

The next Council Meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 4. The agenda for the next meeting will be posted on the city's website on Friday, August 31


Meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, which is located on the second floor of City Hall at 102 North 3rd Street. Parking is available in the Thalian Hall parking lot or in the city parking deck located directly across from City Hall. Meetings are also broadcast on GTV (Time Warner Cable channel 8) or simulcast by clicking "Online Videos" on the city's website.
