City offices will be closed Monday, Oct 5 due to the heavy rains. Monday's trash pickup is postponed until Wednesday.
The city will hold a public stakeholder meeting on Tuesday, September 25 from 6-8 p.m. at City Hall to share information and receive input on the city’s Brownfields Assessment Project.
A brownfield is an abandoned or under-used property where expansion or redevelopment is complicated by the presence or potential presence of environmental contaminants. Redeveloping these properties can produce a healthier environment, revitalize the surrounding area, generate new tax revenues and create new job opportunities in the community.
Last year, the city received a $400,000 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to develop and implement a Brownfields program. The grant is being used to inventory potential brownfield properties and perform environmental assessments on selected sites. This information will aid prospective developers in understanding the costs and liabilities associated with redeveloping brownfield sites.
