The Wilmington Police Department is joining forces with several community partners to launch it's first annual "Light It Up" campaign.
The campaign is designed to encourage residents and business owners to turn on outside lights during night time hours to help fight crime. "As we embark on Day-Light Savings time we must take this opportunity to light up the city and make our community safer," says Chief Ralph Evangelous.
Mayor Bill Saffo will sign a proclamation during the November 7 City Council meeting to kick off the "Light It Up" campaign, which will run from November 7th to January 1st. Community partners include Progress Energy, The Home Depot, Coast 97.3, 102.7 GNI, Gospel Joy 1490 and the Cape Fear Community College.
