On Monday, February 25, Progress Energy crews began removing the remaining utility poles and overhead wires in the northern section of the North 3rd Street Improvement Project. This should take one or two days to complete. Poles in the southern section have already been removed.
The view on 3rd Street will change significantly as the poles and wires are removed now that they are no longer needed because all utilities, including power lines, have been moved underground. Once all the poles are removed, the project is expected to wrap up in two to three weeks as landscaping and street marking is completed.
