New connections on Cross-City Trail

New connections on Cross-City Trail

Work to build a major Cross-City Trail connector along Independence Boulevard crossing Shipyard Blvd. is now complete.

Construction on 2,300 feet of a 8 to 10-foot wide asphalt multi-use path running along Independence Blvd. between Ashton and Converse drives began in January.

Pedestrian signal improvements were also added to the existing signal at Independence and Shipyard boulevards. Along with making connections to parts of the existing trail, the improvements make it safer for users of the trail to cross the busy Independence/Shipyard intersection.

Another recently completed connection on the Cross-City Trail is located at Independence and Park Avenue.

A new pedestrian crossing at Park Avenue was installed, featuring painted crosswalks and push-button activated signals, allowing users of the Gary Shell Cross-City Trail and the River to Sea Bike Route to safely cross Independence Blvd. near Empie Park.
