After school students and staff from the MLK Community Center, as well as neighborhood residents, will join NC State University staff in planting some 30 plants in a new streetside rain garden on Ann St., near the intersection of Ann and 9th Streets, at 3 p.m on Wednesday, May 1. The public is invited to attend.
City crews began construction on the rain garden on April 15.
The Ann Street rain garden will temporarily hold and filter stormwater runoff (rainwater that flows off of streets, driveways, and rooftops) to remove pollutants and reduce flooding in Burnt Mill Creek. The project is funded by a U.S. EPA grant that NCSU received in partnership with the city for installing storm water improvement projects in the Burnt Mill Creek watershed.
