The North Carolina Attorney General's Office released their annual crime report for 2007. The City of Wilmington's serious crime rate decreased more than any other city in the state except one. This is the fifth consecutive year Wilmington's serious crime rate has decreased, although serious crimes actually increased in most other North Carolina cities.
Although assaults were a major issue in 2007, the Wilmington Police Department is targeting this violent crime. Murders increased slightly in Wilmington, consistent with the rest of the state.
