The city's Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center just concluded two successful basketball programs for area youths.
The annual Believe to Achieve Basketball Camp was a week-long camp focusing on developing basketball skills and life skills. Sixty campers took part in the program.
Midnight basketball is one of many new programs offered by the city's Community Centers. This program was held at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center each Friday night from June 6 - July 11 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The program averaged 30-35 teens every Friday. The focus of the program is getting youths off the streets through organized basketball and educational sessions. The program was such a success that next year the city is considering extending the program for the entire summer.
