Parks Bond Update

Parks Bond Update

The latest on the Bond projects

Improved parks and open space are in the works as the City moves forward on projects funded by the 2007 parks bond referendum. Following is an update on major parks projects.
Maides Park
Athletic lighting is now complete, leading to increased safety for the park. Phase II construction expected to begin in February 2008.

Cross-City Trail
Initial design is underway on the pilot project. This section will connect Halyburton Park with the Cameron Art Museum.

Northside Pool
Existing pool house is being updated with ADA upgrades. Bids have been received and are being reviewed for $400,000 in renovations to the Northside Pool, including a Splashpad. The grand opening is scheduled for April 2008.

Greenfield Amphitheatre
Work has begun at the amphitheatre. The renovations will include expanded covered stage and backstage facilities, a projection booth, and a new concession and restroom building. Renovations are estimated to be complete in April 2008.

MLK Center
Renovations are underway, including modernizing the existing building, ADA improvements and making the design more functional. Improvements are expected to be complete in early February 2008.

Empie Park Tennis Center
A design firm has been chosen for the Empie Tennis Center. A public meeting to discuss the project was held in October. A stormwater plan is currently in development.
