Grand opening of city's newest park!

Grand opening of city's newest park!

James E.L. Wade Park opened Jan. 29

A ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open the James E.L. Wade Park took place on Thursday, January 29. The event was held at 3500 Bethel Road in Wilmington, the site of the city's newest park.

The 17-acre tract of land was transformed into a stormwater wetland and park. The park is located at the end of Bethel Road, off Waltmoor Drive.

The Bethel Road Stormwater Wetland was completed in June 2007. The wetland, designed to help improve water quality in Hewlett's Creek and reduce flooding in the area, provides treatment of stormwater runoff from an approximate drainage are of 590 acres, easily making this the largest stormwater wetland in the area.

A park is located on the wetlands and includes three bridges, a 3/4-mile path, a picnic shelter/restroom building and a playground. The park will also be used as an outdoor educational facility.

View the press release for additional details on the park.
