Maides Park now open!

Maides Park now open!

Check out the new renovations

The City held a ribbon-cutting on Friday at Maides Park to officially mark its re-opening after a year of construction. The park, located at 1101 Manly Avenue, had been closed while a 1,300-square-foot expansion of the existing recreation center and other improvements were constructed.

The $1.46 million project was funded largely by the 2006 parks bond. Improvements include the renovation and expansion of the Derick G.S. Davis Center, new parking and renovation of existing lot, athletic field lighting, area lighting, sidewalks and walking trails, picnic shelters with grills, play equipment with swings and a combination restroom/storage/picnic shelter building.

Input from citizens in the Maides Park community was key in determining what improvements were made at the park.

Maides Park is a multi-purpose park consisting two picnic areas with a baseball/softball field, outdoor basketball court, open athletic field, playground equipment and tennis courts. The facility has a multi-purpose room, full service kitchen and computer room.
