Following are dates of interest for this week:
Tuesday, Jan. 19, City Council meeting, 6:30 p.m. at City Hall
Items of interest on the agenda include:
- Consideration of a master plan that outlines recommendations for future growth of the city's park system. Recommendations include acquiring more park land and providing more facilities in several areas, including baseball fields and walking trails;
- Approval of a $1 million federal stimulus grant that will provide funding to make City Hall and other city facilities more energy efficient;
- An update on the regional 10-year plan to end homelessness.
Wednesday, Jan. 20, Dram Tree Project open house, 5-7 p.m. at City Hall
The city and Progress Energy Carolinas will hold an open house on Wednesday to provide information about a project to improve the Dram Tree Park boat launch and restore a former industrial site. The project, which will begin later this month and be completed in mid-2010, will take place at the site of the former Wilmington manufactured gas plant (MGP), located at the intersection of Surry and Castle streets. Representatives from the city, Progress Energy, the state Department of Natural Resources, and project contractors will be available to answer questions from residents.
Monday, Jan. 25, annual State of the City address, 5:30 p.m. at City Hall
On Monday, Mayor Bill Saffo will give his annual state of the city address. He will discuss challenges of the past and coming year, as well as progress made this past year.
