The city held a ribbon-cutting on Feb. 27 to open the Archie Blue Community Park at Love Grove. The park, located at 1306 Stanley Street, is adjacent to the Love Grove neighborhood, Burnt Mill Creek and Smith Creek.
The approximately $1.2 million project was partly funded by the local 2006 parks bond and a state grant. The 6.5-acre park includes:
- Canoe/kayak launch
- Restroom/shelter facility
- Ballfield
- Basketball court
- Playground equipment
- Picnic tables
- Walking trail
- Area lighting
The park is named after the late Archie Blue, who lived his entire life in Love Grove. Blue mentored thousands of children in his more than 30 years at the Community Boys & Girls Club and founded their Drum and Bugle Corps, now known as the Drum and Drill Team.
