Each year the city develops a draft Annual Action Plan and Fair Housing Plan.
The Annual Action Plan provides information about federal entitlement funds, otherwise known as Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnership Program. These funds are used to provide decent housing, support livable communities and expand economic opportunity for low to moderate income households and communities.
The Fair Housing Plan identifies barriers to housing choices that individuals, families or households may experience within the city. As a result of this plan, the city takes actions to further fair housing practices through education and outreach, referrals, and assistance in the development of affordable housing, including accessible housing for the elderly and disabled.
By law, the city must hold at least 2 public hearings each year to allow citizens time to comment on the plans and to respond to proposals and questions. The hearings must address housing and community development needs, development of proposed activities and review program performance.
The results of the public meetings and citizen comments will be documented in the Plan prior to May 14, 2010. Low to moderate income citizens, non-English speaking persons and persons with disabilities are encouraged to provide input into the development of the plans. For citizens unable to attend the public hearing, written comments will also be accepted until 5:00 p.m. on May 2, 2010.
A final draft of the plan will be presented to City Council for consideration at their May 4, 2010 meeting.
