City staff presented a recommended comprehensive annexation policy at a public meeting on Aug. 10 at Noble Middle School.
At the meeting, residents learned more about the proposed policy and had the opportunity to provide feedback. The annexation policy is expected to go before the Wilmington City Council for possible adoption at their Aug. 17 meeting. If approved, the policy will outline how future annexations are handled in an effort to have a more methodical approach to annexation that would provide long-term notification of what areas would be annexed and when.
Ten possible study areas for annexation, as well as criteria for prioritizing these areas, have been identified. Should Council approve the plan, further analysis will have to be done before any specific action toward annexation could be taken.
