Dram Tree boat ramp

Dram Tree boat ramp

Boat ramp and park officially open
Dram Tree Park, newly refurbished boat ramp and new kayak launch officially opened on October 21; however the ramp had been open to the public since October 2.

The city teamed up with Progress Energy on the project.

Progress Energy restored the surrounding area at the intersection of Surry and Castle streets which had been the site of the former Wilmington manufactured gas plant while the city repaired the nearby boat ramp, built a floating dock, kayak launch and new parking lot.

The city's portion of the project cost approximately $622,000, and included funding from the NC Wildlife Resources Commission. The project began in late January, 2010.

The Wilmington MGP operated from approximately 1883 until 1957 on property now owned by the city, the Wilmington Housing Authority and the Gateway Project.
