Legion Stadium reopens

Legion Stadium reopens

Legion Stadium re-opened on March 30 after a project to install synthetic turf was completed. The $780,560 project was jointly funded by the city, New Hanover County and New Hanover County Schools. Although the field will still require some maintenance, material and labor costs are expected to decrease. The amount of time school teams are able to use the field will increase significantly, as will the number of events and other games that can be held there.

A brief ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Saturday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m. prior to the season opener of the Wilmington Hammerheads. Mayor Bill Saffo and other local officials will be on hand to speak at the event.
