The city held an open house on May 5 to discuss the Shipyard connector piece of the Gary Shell Cross-City Trail. The connector will enable trail users to safely cross Shipyard Boulevard, closing a gap in the trail and providing a seamless stretch of trail between Halyburton Park and Randall Parkway. A connector running along the east side of Independence Boulevard is the recommended option from several routes that were considered, based on public input, cost and safety.
Meanwhile, another section of the trail is currently under construction. This section consists of 3.4 miles of multi-use trail from the intersection of Randall Pkwy/South College Road, around the UNCW campus, along Rose Avenue, and sidewalks and on-road bike lanes on Mallard Street, Rill Road and Teal Street. Work along Rose Avenue and Riegel Road behind UNCW began last February.
Visit the Gary Shell Cross-City Trail page for more information on the trail.
