The city dedicated a section of the Gary Shell Cross-City Trail that runs through the UNCW campus to honor Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo on June 20. The ceremony was held at UNCW's Kenan Auditorium.
When complete, this section of the trail will stretch from South College Road to Teal Street through the UNCW campus and will connect sidewalks and bicycle lanes along Randall Parkway with Mallard Drive at Hooker Road.
The city received $2 million in federal stimulus funding for this phase of the Gary Shell Cross-City Trail. Construction on this section is expected to be complete late this summer.
Almost seven miles of the Cross-City Trail are already complete and this phase will add approximately four miles. When complete, the Cross-City Trail will be approximately 15 miles long and stretch from Wade Park in the south side of the city to the Wrightsville Beach drawbridge.
Visit the Gary Shell Cross-City Trail page for more information about the trail.
