A section of the Gary Shell Cross-City Trail along Eastwood Road between Rogersville Road and King Arthur Drive will be temporarily closed while drainage improvements are made to the Cavalier Drive area. A temporary fence will be installed on Friday, August 19.
Bicycle and pedestrian traffic will be re-routed. Please refer to the map for detour information. The Cross-City trail will be re-opened as soon as possible. It is not anticipated that Eastwood Road will need to be closed during the project.
A one half-mile long, 5 ½ foot wide drainage pipe will be installed along the south side of Eastwood Road. The pipe will run from Rogersville Road to King Arthur Drive and carry stormwater away from the Cavalier Drive area to a tributary of Bradley Creek. Currently, even minor rain events can cause flooding in the vicinity. This $1.6 million project will significantly reduce flooding in the area.
The project is expected to be complete next spring.
