As of July 1, 2011, the City of Wilmington will no longer pick up computers, computer equipment (monitors, printers, scanners, etc.) or televisions. According to a recently passed state law, they cannot be accepted at landfills in North Carolina.
Residents may bring their computer equipment and old televisions to the New Hanover County landfill on Wednesdays between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. for recycling. The landfill will also accept all other small electric appliances for recycling at that time. Although the city will still collect other electronics, they will not be recycled unless brought to the county landfill on Wednesday between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
City trash customers can have large appliances such as refrigerators, stoves, washers and dryers picked up roadside at no extra charge. Just call the Solid Waste division at 341.7875 and make an appointment for pick up.
Visit the Solid Waste web page for more information on "e-Recycling." |
