Market Street traffic advisory

Market Street traffic advisory

The city will complete sidewalks and install a signalized pedestrian crossing at Barclay Hills and Market Street as part of the city's pedestrian and bicycle improvement program. Work on the $81,707.60 project to make sidewalk, curbing, pedestrian signals and drainage improvements will begin on August 22.

The work on Market Street will require a lane closure from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and should take four nights, weather permitting. Eastbound traffic (heading away from downtown) will be reduced to one lane for the first two nights, and westbound traffic will be reduced to one lane for the second two nights.

There will also be traffic controls and possible delays affecting the Barclay Hills portion of the intersection for approximately two weeks.

This project completes efforts from last fall and is coordinated with the North Carolina Department of Transportation. By completing this work, the City will gain a much needed pedestrian crossing across Market Street, thus increasing mobility and safety for pedestrians and bicyclists.
