Construction on Empie Park Fire Station is now underway. After 40 years of service, the old station was demolished after mold was found in the building.
The new station will have a design similar to the Seagate Fire Station as well as an additional 880 square feet that will better accommodate today’s larger fire equipment.
Construction is expected to last 11 months and will cost approximately $2 million. Nearby businesses will not be impacted by the construction. Upon completion, an artifact from the World Trade Center will be permanently displayed at the station in a memorial garden as a tribute to Wilmington’s fallen firefighters.
