The City plans to replace a 1400 foot segment of the Northeast Interceptor force main sewer line near the Cameron Art Museum.
Last week, workers discovered that a portion of the line does not meet the high-pressure standards to which the rest of the line complies. Approximately 700 feet of the NEI, near the intersection of 17th Street and Independence Boulevard, is a type of pipe which is more commonly found in gravity lines.
City staff is recommending that this 700 foot segment, along with an adjacent 700 foot lined segment, be replaced later this year.
The replacement of the 1400 foot segment of pipe can be accomplished through amendments to an existing construction contract and is expected to be complete by the end of this year.
