Cross-City Trail ribbon cutting

Cross-City Trail ribbon cutting

The city will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for the section of the Gary Shell Cross-City Trail that travels through UNCW on Friday, October 14 at 2:30 p.m. The event will take place on the UNCW campus directly across from Trask Coliseum on Wagoner Drive. Parking is available adjacent to the coliseum (see map below).

This section of the Trail stretches from the intersection of South College Road and Randall Parkway to the end of Teal Street in the College Acres neighborhood. It will connect to future trail sections on Randall Parkway on one end, and the Autumn Hall Development on the other. This section features a multi-use path through the UNCW campus and sidewalks and bike lanes on Mallard Drive and Rill Road.

The city received $2 million in federal stimulus funding for this section of the Cross-City Trail.

Almost seven miles of the Cross-City Trail are already complete and this phase will add approximately four miles. When fully complete, the Cross-City Trail will be approximately 15 miles long and stretch from Wade Park in the southern side of the city to the Wrightsville Beach drawbridge.
