
In May 2006, residents of Wilmington and New Hanover County passed a combined $35.5 million bond referendum to expand parks, green space and cultural facilities throughout Wilmington, New Hanover County and the beach towns. The bond funds will be used to purchase park lands and improve recreation areas throughout Wilmington and New Hanover County.

WHAT'S NEW........
Bethel Park nearing completion
Work on Bethel Park located off of South College Rd near Waltmoor St. is nearing completion. The park will feature a walking trail with interpretive signage, a playground, picnic shelter and restrooms. A ribbon cutting will be held in early January when work is complete.
Shelter/Restrooms: The stucco finish has been applied. All painting has been completed. The heaters and exhaust fans have been installed. All toilet accessories have been installed. Electrical and plumbing finishing work is being completed.
- The sidewalk surrounding the shelter has been poured.
- The asphalt trail surrounding the perimeter of the park is complete.

- The water fountain has been installed.
- The top layer of ground has been removed for grading and seeding in the open field play area.
What is next?
- Interpretive and educational signs are in the process of being designed.
- Landscaping will be installed in late November and early December.
- The wheel stops and striping will be installed in the parking lot the first week in December.
- Remote controlled magnetic locks will be installed in the restrooms in early December.
- A ribbon cutting ceremony is being scheduled for early January.
