Roundabout at Wallace Avenue
Will improve traffic flow along Wrightsville where it backs up just east of College Road
What is a roundabout?

  • From South College Road to Hawthorne Drive
  • From Castle Street to Independence Boulevard
  • From 44th Street to Independence Boulevard

  • Fill in gaps and create a continuous sidewalk along
    • Wrightsville Ave from Castle Street to Independence Blvd.
    • Independence to College Road
    • College Road to the Cape Fear Hospital at Hawthorne Drive
  • Provide safe pedestrian connections between multiple neighborhoods, shopping areas, UNCW, the Cross-City Trail, and the River-to-Sea bike route
  • Help address safety concerns related to the number of bike/pedestrian accidents and fatalities that have occurred in the city over the last six years; there were 24 bike/pedestrian fatalities and 836 accidents between Jan. 1, 2007 and Dec. 31, 2013

Why now?
All areas of Wilmington and New Hanover County are expected to grow over the next 20 years. At the same time our population is increasing, construction costs will continue to rise while state and federal funding for transportation is expected to decrease.

Note: Projects listed are proposed or potential projects identified at this time. Identified costs are estimates only – finalized figures to be identified after projects are fully designed and construction costs are determined.
