Construction to Begin on Shipyard Connector

Construction of the Gary Shell Cross-City Trail Phase III-D is anticipated to began December 2012 with completion expected in April, 2013.  During this period, there will be intermittent traffic delays along northbound Independence Boulevard, between Commons Drive and Converse Drive, including the intersection of Independence Boulevard and Shipyard Boulevard. 

About the Project:
This project will connect the existing portions of the Gary Shell Cross-City Trail on Independence Boulevard.    The 2,300 asphalt path connection will parallel Independence Boulevard between Ashton Drive and Converse Drive.  Additionally, pedestrian signal amenities will be added to the existing signal at the Independence Boulevard/Shipyard intersection.   

Background
Public open houses were held on Monday, April 4, 2011 and May 5, 2011 to discuss options for the Shipyard Blvd. Connector piece of the trail.  The recommended alignment reflects input provided by the public.
