Wilmington Tree Commission

The Commission promotes and endorses programs and policies to support our Urban Forest, increases public education, and establishes awards and recognition programs as incentives to encourage a healthy and attractive natural environment for the City of Wilmington.

Our Roots
Recognizing the need to protect and promote our urban forest, the City of Wilmington’s City Council established the Wilmington Tree Commission on April 16, 1996.
 

We celebrate and support the following programs:

  • Arbor Day Celebrations
  • Tree City USA award 
  • Tree City USA Growth Award
  • City Tree Ordinances
  • I Spy A Tree contest
  • Heritage Tree Program
  • Treefest
  • Tree Awards

Additional Information
  • Meetings:  Held on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 8:30 am.
  • Location:   First floor conference room – City Hall – 102 N. 3rd Street

Members

13 members: 

  • (9) City residents
  • (3) ex-officio members with (1) each from Development Services, Community Services and the City's Urban Forester
  • (1) member of the City Council
Terms of Office
  • Each member is appointed by the City Council for a term of not more than (3) years. 
  • No member appointed by the Council shall be eligible to serve more than (2) consecutive terms. 
  • Any vacancies will be advertised on GTV8 and local papers.
