The Wilmington Tree Commission’s mission is to promote and endorse programs and policies to support, maintain and grow our urban forest, increase public education, and establish award and recognition programs as incentives to encourage a healthy, safe and attractive natural environment for the City of Wilmington.
On behalf of the Wilmington City Council, The Wilmington Tree Commission annually presents awards for properties located within the city of Wilmington. The awards and criteria for nominations recognize outstanding tree preservation, outstanding landscapes, and outstanding commitment to reforestation, or tree planting.

GENERAL NOMINATION INFORMATION
AWARD CATEGORIES: Please note in the narrative which categories apply to your submittal.
I. Tree Preservation
Tree preservation projects would include examples of outstanding maintenance, rehabilitation or preservation of older trees with unique characteristics, preservation of threes at new development sites and preventative health practices.
II. Landscape Design
Landscape design projects would include examples of outstanding use of native trees, designs that simulate a natural habitat, designs complementary to the topography of the site, designs that are particularly appropriate to the history of the site, and outstanding functional designs such as designs that facilitate pedestrian use.
Reforestation projects would include, for example, planting of city street trees in public areas and planting projects undertaken by neighborhood associations.
