The Neighborhood Traffic Management Program
(NTMP) works to address traffic safety problems on residential streets within our neighborhoods, which include speeding and cut through traffic volume. The NTMP uses Traffic Calming measures to "calm traffic" within the neighborhood. When neighborhood streets have traffic calming measures in place, vehicular speeds may be reduced and traffic safety will be improved. The NTMP allows city staff to work in conjunction with neighborhood citizens to develop viable short term and long term solutions for their neighborhoods.
Neighborhood Traffic Study Methods and Current Status
Residents of the study areas meet with city staff to identify traffic related issues that can be addressed through a Neighborhood Traffic Study. After the first of two neighborhood meetings, City Staff develops a list of short term and long term solutions for the study area. The short term and long term solutions were approved by the residents during the second neighborhood meeting and presented to City Council for implementation. Short term solutions usually can be implemented within 6 months to 1 year of the neighborhood meetings. Long term solutions require engineering design, funding in the Capital project budget and construction by a general contractor. Long term solutions may be implemented in 1 to 2 years after funding becomes available.
The following neighborhoods have met and begun implementation of short term and long term solutions for their study areas:
