ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING
Environmental planning is responsible for integrating natural resource protection into the City’s long range planning efforts, conducting environmental reviews of current development projects, evaluating environmental conditions in the City, initiating appropriate ordinance changes to protect natural resources and improve availability and access to natural areas and public spaces.
Joint Wilmington – New Hanover County CAMA (Coastal Area Management Act) Plan The City of Wilmington and New Hanover County jointly prepared and adopted a Coastal Area Management Plan in 1976 and jointly updated that plan in 1982, 1987, 1993, and 1999. The North Carolina Coastal Area Management Act Planning Rules (CAMA) require that the Plan be updated approximately every six years, with the process starting in the fourth year. The City and County are wrapping up a two year effort working with an Advisory Panel to update the plan.
