Stimulus

In February 2009, President Barack Obama signed a $787 billion recovery bill to create jobs, improve the Country's infrastructure and strengthen the economy. The City has been actively pursuing various grants funded through The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for the betterment of the Community. A committee was formed in May of 2009 of City Employees to ensure all opportunities were pursued and that all requirements of the Grants are met.

Cross City Trail

The City received $2 million of Federal Stimulus funding from the National Surface Transportation Grant through the NCDOT for the Construction of Phase I and II of the Cross City Trail. The Cross City Trail will provide bicycle and pedestrian access to locations across the City.

Wilmington Police Department

The Police Department received $2 million in Federal Stimulus Funding to hire 13 officers and pay them for 3 years. The Grant was administered by the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Click here for more info.
