Battalion Chief David Hines is the Public Information Officer (PIO) for the Wilmington Fire Department. The PIO works closely with the Incident Commander on emergency scenes to ensure that an accurate and consistent message is released to the public. The PIO schedules and conducts press conferences and press releases. All media questions and interviews are channeled to the PIO if on scene and to the Incident Commander if the PIO is unavailable. The PIO coordinates with Fire and Life Safety to answer questions and release information about investigations and/or the cause and origin of fires.
The PIO works closely with the Fire Educators to educate the public on fire prevention and life safety matters. To see all the educational services offered click
