Education Requests

Education requests must be made at least two weeks in advance by completing a Fire Education Request Form.

The following educational programs are available at no cost to our citizens:

  • Station Tours. Fire Station Tours are conducted at any of the city's 10 fire stations. Tours are educational and available to any age group.

  • Truck Display. We offer educational access to a fire truck for a special event or lesson (no birthday parties).

  • Fire Extinguisher Training. Learn the proper use of a multi-purpose fire extinguisher with this hands-on training. For groups of at least ten or more, ages 18 and up. An outdoor space and access to a water hose is necessary for the hands-on component of this training.
  • Fire Education Classes. We offer a variety of classes on home and/or commercial fire safety, tailored to meet your needs.

  • Fire Safety House. This mobile classroom is designed to teach vital burn-prevention and fire escape techniques through a fun, safe simulation of common hazards. The Fire Safety House is designed to accommodate up to 12 people and is available at Station #15 for small groups to visit on site. The house becomes mobile for Wilmington's schools. Fire Safety House permission slips are required for any participant under age eighteen.
  • Youth Fire Setters. The Wilmington Fire Department can be of assistance with a child or young adult that you believe may have set or be setting fires. Fire Setting is a dangerous behavior, and requires preventative family measures and offers intervention when deemed necessary.
  • Fire in the Media.  Today's youth are bombarded with media - both good and bad. Our Fire in the Media program offers middle and high school students the opportunity to explore fire as we see it in the movies and video games of the times, and offers a fact based lessons, combined with technology, about real fire.
