On November 28, the city and The Bring It! Downtown Marketing Campaign coordinated the “3rd Street Light Up,” event to celebrate the pending completion of the North 3rd Street Improvement Project. The celebration took place at the corner of 3rd and 4th streets in Innes Park at City Hall. The road paving that will take place over the next two weeks is the last major part of the 18-month project, which which will also include the replacement of aging utilities, water and sewer lines and streetscape improvements such as landscaping and new street lights and crosswalks.
During the event, Mayor Bill Saffo turned on the new street lights that now line 3rd Street from Market Street to Campbell Street. Watch the video of the lighting.
According to The Bring It! Downtown Marketing Campaign, the event was held to recognize “the patience and understanding of downtown businesses, residents, and visitors as the extensive project moves towards completion, and encourages area residents to ‘Bring It! Downtown’ this holiday season.”
Mayor Saffo was on hand to provide comments, along with Downtown Business Alliance President Jim Bitto and Wilmington Downtown Inc. Board Chair Cathey Luna.
