Work will begin next week on the widening of Randall Parkway from Independence Boulevard to South College Road.
The first phase of the project will involve clearing vegetation to make room for the additional two lanes being added. Intermittent traffic delays can be expected.
Clearing is expected to take up to four weeks to complete and roadwork will begin in early January at the Independence Boulevard intersection.
When complete, the 15-month project will alleviate heavy congestion that regularly occurs between Kerr Avenue to South College Road and will also extend the Cross-City Trail from Brailsford Drive to Marlboro Street. Most of the $5.6 million project is funded by federal and state monies and the 2006 voter-approved transportation bond.
